Lawn mowers are “nasty machines”

Young amputee warns of dangers of lawn mower

Editor-in-Chief, The Times:

Accidents can happen in a fraction of a second. I was two years old when I fell in the path of a lawn mower and lost my right leg below the knee.

I grew up in the War Amps for Child Amputees (CHAMP) program and help carry the Association’s PLAYSAFE message. With the lawn mowing season here, I want everyone to know that children shouldn’t be driving, using, or playing near lawn mowers.

I accept who I am today, but I wouldn’t want anyone else to experience what I did. I hope that by sharing my story it will prevent even one child from being hurt.

Lawn mowers are tools, not toys. The War Amps video Lawn Mowers Are Wicked Machines highlights the dangers of lawn mowers and is a valuable resource for families and educators.

Please take the time to watch the video at waramps.ca/playsafe.
