Jim Breslo: Gavin Newsom’s wake-up plans now include toys, lawn mowers and even toilets

Democrats have a monopoly on power in California. They hold super-majorities in both legislative chambers, in every statewide office, in every big-city mayor office, and literally in every seat of the Los Angeles and San Francisco city councils. As a result, there is virtually no limit to the wild progressive ideas they can implement.

In the 2021 legislative session that just ended, some of the bills were so crazy that even darling progressive Governor Gavin Newsom did not have the courage to sign them.

Before we get into them, let’s take a look at some of the banknotes he wasn’t ashamed to sign:

Gender neutral toy sections

Under this new law, if you want to sell children’s toys in California, you must now have a section designated as “gender neutral”, for example, those that are not pink or blue, but maybe a nice shade of gray. Parents who are awake will finally be assured of a safe place for their children to shop.

Free menstrual products

California public schools and colleges are now required to provide free menstrual products in their toilets. The justification? Gender equity, of course. The proud author, MEP Cristina Garcia, said of her legislation: “Just as toilet paper and paper towels are provided in virtually every public toilet, menstrual products should be too. “

CALIFORNIA REQUIRES MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Compulsory course in ethnic studies at the secondary level

California becomes the first state in the country to impose such a course. At the signing ceremony, Newsom said students “must understand the whole history of our country if we are to ever expect them to build a more just society.” “The Complete History” is the code for critical race theory, while “a more just society” is the code for fairness and progressivism.

“Ethnic studies classes,” he said, “allow students to learn their own stories – and those of their classmates.” It reflects the progressive mindset that what makes us who we are is our ethnicity and our skin color, not our individual experiences and character.

Ban on gasoline mowers

California continues its determination to unilaterally solve the so-called global problem of climate change by banning all gasoline all-terrain engines, such as generators, lawn equipment, pressure washers, chainsaws, trimmers, and gasoline engines. golf carts. (Guess which gasoline engine will be banned next?)

NEWSOM SIGNS CONTROVERSIAL BILL REQUIRING ETHNIC EDUCATION FOR ALL OF CALIF. GRADUATE STUDENTS

The state’s clean energy rules are a big tax for low-income residents, as they pay the highest gas and electricity tariffs in the country. And this new law acts as a tax on small businesses since electrical equipment is much more expensive and much less efficient than gas-powered equipment.

Now, for bills too crazy for even Newsom to sign (fair warning: he initially vetoed the ethnic studies bill referenced above, so seek them back):

Paying people to stay sober

California’s legislature, inundated with COVID money from the federal government, wanted to make payments to recovering drug addicts who can prove they’ve stayed sober. It’s the kind of state nanny policies you get when we put the government in charge of our health. Newsom vetoed it, but mostly he said because the state is already trying to launch a similar pilot project!

More Opinion

Decriminalize Jaywalking

Why? Not because the legislature trusts people to fend for themselves, but because it believes that current laws are having a negative impact on people of color! This may be true, but not because of discrimination, but rather because the police are deployed where crime is highest, which is most often in city centers.

The continued use by the left of this flawed justification to decriminalize certain activities, reduce sentences and release prisoners is part of the reason we see crime on the rise. By vetoing the bill, Newsom has surprisingly placed public safety above awakened politics.

More money for family leave and college financial aid

Newsom vetoed two other bills, not because he disagreed with them, but because they were just too expensive. The legislator wanted to pay more money to workers on family leave and increase subsidies to students. The bills were just too expensive, even for the spendthrift Newsom.

These bills show how progressive state leaders are focused more on being the first to enact new progressive dream legislation than they are on being the first in the things that matter. Californians.

Although it is the richest and most taxed state in the country, it sits at the bottom of the national scale in terms of road conditions, traffic, student-teacher ratio, homelessness, housing affordability, crime, wildfires, energy prices and prison overcrowding.

When the only diet control in California is called Gavin Newson, it should come as no surprise.
