If you’ve used our technical documentation over the last couple of months, you’ve probably noticed some changes – and we hope you like them.

JW Player did a soft launch of developer.jwplayer.com in December 2015 with the goal of decreasing “time to Hello World” and making it easier for developers to find the resources they need. Now, with all of our technical documentation and demos migrated to the site, we are happy to officially launch the JW Player Developer Portal!

What started as a simple untangling of support, marketing, and technical resources has quickly become one of our favorite projects here at JW. Our goal is to not only help our users more easily build rich video applications with our Player, Platform, and mobile SDKs, but also foster a community of developers using JW Player. To that end, we have organized the site into two main sections: Build and Engage.

Build

This is where you can access our API References, Developer Guides, and Release Notes organized by product. We also provide links to our cross-product open-source demos, kits, and tools. We anticipate this section growing and improving rapidly as we add new resources such as testing tools, widgets, and additional demos.

One of our favorite resources is our collection of JW Player Demos. Here you can find open source demos and code examples for all levels of developers using JW Player – ranging from basic Javascript API calls to player customization. The collection is growing quickly, but we’d love to see what our community is working on too. You can download the Demo Starter Kit and submit your own demos to our Developer Showcase.

Engage

JW Player is doubling down on our community engagement, both online and in-person. The Engage page is your resource for all things community-related, including events, tweets, blog posts, Stack Overflow, GitHub, Gitter, and Support.

We recently kicked off our first Video Tech NYC Meetup, which was a huge success, and we can’t wait to see the group expand. As we continue to host, sponsor, and attend more events, this section of the site will continue to grow with sign-ups, livestreams, recordings, and more.

Send Us Your Feedback

We’ve dedicated resources to building an engaging developer portal that makes our users lives easier, so if you have any feedback, we’d love to hear it. Whether you love it, hate it, have a suggestion for a new resource, want to see something updated, or just want to say hi, let us know at devrelations@jwplayer.com or @JWDevelopers.

For updates on new developer tools and resources, sign up for our Developer Community.
