World’s First Buffer-Free Player and Content Score Announced to Digital Video Leaders
New York, NY (June 7, 2018) – JW Player, the world’s largest network-independent video platform, today highlighted two product innovations that will draw on video intelligence to further enhance the viewer experience and accelerate revenue growth. These enhancements were shared exclusively on Wednesday, June 6th 2018 to an audience of hundreds of premium publishers, broadcasters, partners and industry influencers at the fifth annual JW Insights event in New York City.
With its unmatched global footprint of over one billion unique viewers and crucial role in delivering video content and enabling monetization, JW Player sits at the center of the digital video ecosystem between content creators, technology providers, marketers and consumers. The theme of the 2018 JW Insights event was “Growth Powered By Video Intelligence”, and attendees heard from leaders including IBM Watson Advertising, Business Insider, and A&E Networks on how data and intelligence are transforming digital video to drive audience and revenue growth.
Across a series of keynote presentations and developer talks delivered during the day, the JW Player team previewed two key releases:
Buffer-Free Player: With the world’s first Buffer-Free Player, JW Player is enabling publishers and media companies to deliver a broadcast TV-like experience for consumers across digital devices. By introducing ad preloading to JW Player’s existing content background loading capabilities, ad load time is reduced by more than 50%, regardless of the speed of the user’s connection. The result is that Buffer-Free Player minimizes the chance for abandonment — studies show that users start to abandon a video after just a two second delay — while simultaneously improving engagement and monetization.
Content Score: JW Player’s Content Score mines video intelligence and the billions of signals from JW Player’s network to proactively score publishers’ videos, determining what content is most compelling to their users. A customized Content Score provides actionable metrics, giving publishers the intelligence needed to create a more compelling, engaging experience. The introduction of Content Score represents another key step toward realizing JW Player’s vision of putting the power of data and video intelligence in the hands of its clients.
“Now in its fifth year, JW Insights has become a forum for the video industry to come together and share best practices and learnings,” said Dave Otten, co-founder and CEO of JW Player. “This year, JW Insights focused on what we believe is the next massive phase of innovation in digital video: data and intelligence and its impact on driving content creation decisions, optimizing playback experiences and helping customers build larger, more engaged audiences. Needless to say, we were incredibly excited to dig into the conversation with this fantastic group coming together from across the video ecosystem.”
Both products announced today will be launched throughout the second half of 2018. A full recap of JW Insights can be found here.
